Don't think for a second that this couldn't happen to you, or that it hasn't already happened in the USA! It has happened, and many times at that. The biggest misconception we have in America is that, "no one ever thinks it will happen to them"! This mode of thinking will catch you off guard more often than not, in a variety of situations, and make you vulnerable and susceptible to violence! We should always be aware and know that anything can happen to any of us, and at any time. Matter of fact, violence happens everyday in cities and towns all across the Nation and many of us are so trapped in our own bubbles that we don't see the hidden dangers lurking right before our eyes.

So, how do we keep ourselves safe? There are many ways to do this, but here are just a few tips in light of this occurrence again in Paris. Be aware of your surroundings everywhere you go. Always look to the right, left and behind you. It only takes a second to glance around. If you're at a parade, outdoor concert, farmers market or anywhere there is access with vehicle traffic, always look around and do it often. If you see it before it happens, you just might be able to have time to move yourself, friends, children or a stranger to safety before impact. If it's a high profile event that is outdoors, don't get caught amongst people where there is no egress. Always look for, and have a way out, to exit quickly if need be. Stay off your phones anytime you are walking. Phone calls, posts and texts can wait, if only for a few minutes. If you have ear buds in, take one out so you can hear everything that's going on around you. You might be surprised at what you start noticing if you practice these few easy steps. It will become habit and most importantly, save a life or two! Be aware, be safe and always look around!
